Keyon Harrold and his friends returned to the legendary Blue Note New York with sounds of timeless summer jazz vibes and an outstanding special guest performance by Daley. I caught up with Keyon before the first set to talk about his collaboration with NaS off the latest ‘The Lost Tapes 2’ project.
Keyon said, “NaS reached out, was like yo!, I need you, you know. . . do your magic, do ya thing” on ‘Jarreau of Rap’ featuring the legendary Al Jarreau.
Prior to recording his horns on ‘The Lost Tapes 2’ debut single ‘Jarreau of Rap’ in New York City, Keyon had a show in Atlanta with Earth Wind and Fire’s Phillip Bailey. After returning home from Atlanta to record new records for NaS and Dave East, he realized his trumpet mouthpiece was lost. Keyon ended up doing his magic on Dave East’s record first using his flugelhorn, and literally in between sessions, ran out and bought a mouthpiece for the ‘Jarreau of Rap’ recording. His innovation and creativity to perform exceptional work through any means necessary is an inspiration to musicians and fans everywhere.
